Cheaters

I am linking up withe The Girl Creative Today for New Friend Friday. Head there for some new friends and a great giveaway.

I woke up this morning and I couldn't figure out why my legs and booty were killing me. I ran my usual midweek, mid distance 7 mile (ok 4 mile, FINE 3.2 mile) run yesterday. I went for a walk with the kids. I didn't think those were it.
Oh yeah. After our Forced Fun Family Walk I put the babies to bed, asked Ty to listen for them and then went down to the park to help Saigie out with some social problems she has been having. In order to ease her into the setting I decided to play tag with her and the neighborhood kids at the park.
They thought this was great fun and I ended up sprinting around trying to tag some elementary school kids. They kept changing the rules on me though. When I would finally catch one she would say, "I can't be tagged on this particular line of longitude!" Then when I would finally grab another one he would claim, "I am safe because tomorrow is my dog's birthday." What? At one point while climbing up the slide to catch one of the little boogers I was informed that the IT had to close their eyes while on the equipment. Hey! I am brittle....I could break a hip doing that.

Finally I managed to tag an unsuspecting victim who may or may not have been just trying to swing. Whatever.

After that forty minutes (ok - four) minutes of sprinting I decided Saigie was on her own and I went home to clean house (ok - watch t.v.) When I got home Tayte had escaped from his room (ok - the dining room where he sleeps) and was foraging for toys. Where was that responsible 14 year old I had left in charge? Of course he was in his room on the phone talking to a girl who wanted to know why more people don't think she is pretty. Hello? Don't ask my son. He thinks you are totally hot just because you are TALKING to him. He did what any 8th grade girl wants though and assured her she was just lovely.

So.......no wonder my legs hurt. And my head!!

The morals of this story are.
1. Elementary school kids cheat at tag.
2. Eighth grade boys think all girls are hot.
3. I am old, but I am the coolest parent in the neighborhood.
4. Sprinting, even for four minutes - HURTS!
Cuz I like a good party I am also linking up at Trendy Treehouse.
Happy Friday.

  1. Haha! I love your morals! I want to run...I keep injuring my shoulder during other attempts at exercise and was thinking maybe I could give running a try...We'll see. ;)

  2. Funny stuff! Even four minutes of tag with elementary kids can seem like an eternity!

  3. Hi Heather! The wisdom of sages, "don't play tag with kids" yikes! Thanks for visiting my blog and following me. I'm following you too now. I'm impressed with the 3.2 mile run by the way. Smiles. I'll be back in a few days to see what I can see.

  4. See, now you know why most kids can stuff their faces and still stay skinny. I think we grownups should go out everyday and play tag with each other. Oh, and we could make up our own rules, too. "I can't be tagged because I'm PMS'ing and I'll either cry or slap you, if you tag me."

It could be some real fun.

  6. Isn't it the truth!? My legs hurt for 2 days following my attempt to cut down my pace from a 12min mile to a 10min mile. Lord, I'm SO slow!

  7. As the parent of a 8th grade girl, I can second that all 8th grade boys think that. As the father of that same 8th grade girl that runs distance for the HS varsity track and XC teams, I can second that all sprinting for _old_ folks hurts but the kids often don't seem to notice it yet.

But they will (insert evil laugh)!

  14. Hi Heather,
This was very funny:) You are so right about the sprinting...it makes us hurt in places it shouldn't! Your eigth grade son sounds like a good guy...making sure to let the girl know that she is hot...I love it:) I also have an eighth grade girl and she loves it when boys tell her that she is cute/pretty or whatever:) Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
